Rosyth Castle

In 1428 the Barony of Rosyth was granted to Sir David Stewart. By about 1450 the castle was built, it was almost wholly surrounded by water at high tide. The castle remained in the Stewart family until the late 17th century when Sir William Stewart sold it to David Drummond of Invermay. The ownership passed to the Earl of Rosebury, and then to the Earl of Hopeton (1712). During this time the castle was left unoccupied and fell into ruins.
